FRANKLIN PELEG BROWNELL (1857-1946) R.C.A., O.S.A., CANADIAN PASTEL ORIGINAL ART

This is a rare example of Franklin Peleg Brownell’s work in pastel, titled “Cattle Grazing in the Gatineau” and initialled in the bottom right corner of the work. The framed has an engraved plaque centered at the bottom, and the work is triple matted within the frame. The alternative descriptive title for this work as described by Waddington’s Joyner Canadian Art Auction is “Gatineau Scene”.
The owner of this work states that it was purchased from a private collector in late 2016, who had bought the painting from Waddington’s Toronto art auction in 2009. According to Invaluable, this painting was also offered for sale in Calgary in 2009 by Hodgin’s Art Auctions Ltd. after being sold by Peter Ohler’s Vancouver auction house in July, 2004.
The unframed dimensions of this work are 9″ high x 12 1/4″ wide. The framed dimensions of this work are 20″ high x 23″ wide x 2″ thick.
